National Symbols of India :

Our national flag is horizontal rectangular tricolor flag which has

  • Deep Saffron at the Top
  • White at the Center
  • India Green at the bottom
  • A wheel which is navy blue in color and has 24 spikes (Called Ashoka Chakra)

National Emblem :

Our National Emblem is the Lion Capital of Ashoka at Sarnath. There is quote below the abacus “Satya Meva Jeyathe” (in Devanagari Script) which means “Truth Only Triumphs”

National Anthem :

Jana Gana Mana by Rabindranath Tagore has been adopted as the National Anthem by the Consituent Aseembly n 24 January 1950

National Song :

Vande Mataram by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee was adopted in 1950 as our National Song (Only the first 2 verses are in practice as the National Song)

Oath of Allegiance :

We practice the National Pledge (India is my country) as our Oath of Allegiance nationwide. This pledge was written Pydimarri Venkata Subba Rao in Telugu in 1962.

National Flower

Lotus is our National Flower. The flower is considered sacred and has been considered an auspicious symbol of Indian Culture.

National Fruit :

Our National Fruit is Mango since the fruit originated in India (Scientific name: Mangifera Indica). There are atlease 100 varieties of Mango.

National Tree :

Indian banyan, the scientific name of which is Ficus Bengalensis is considered as an immortal tree. This tree roots by itself and forms new trees. Large Banyans which look majestic grow over large areas. Banyan tree, since historical periods is considered an an integral part of the myths and legends of India and thus considered as the National Tree of our country

National River :

Ganga which is the longest river in India is officially the National River of India. Ganga is considered a holy and sacred river by Hindus all over the world. Also, Ganga is the highly populated River Basis in the world.

National Animal :

The Bengal Tiger (Scientific Name Panthera tigris tigris) is the national animal of India. Tigers are rare species fund only in the Indian Subcontinent.

National Bird :

Our National Bird is Peafowl (Peacock – male, Peahen-female). The Scientific name of Peacock is (Pavo cristatus) and the bird finds many reference in our culture.

National Heritage Animal :

The Indian Elephant gives a great heritage to our country and it is found in 4 different regions of India (Scientific name: Elephas maximus indicus)

National Reptile :

Our National Reptile is King Cobra since the same Elapid (venomous snake) is found in forests of India. King Cobra also has played a major role in our Hindu Mythology with many ancient stories and beliefs about the reptile.

National Aquatic Animal :

River Dolphin is considered our National Aquatic Animal since it is considered to represent the purity of the Ganges. River Dolphin (Scientific name: Platanista gangetica) lives only in pure and fresh water

National Currency :

Indian Rupee (denoted by a symbol which is picked from Devanagri Script र – sounding “Ra”) is the official currency of our country. The currency is issued by the Reserve Bank of India. Also, 1 Indian Rupee equals 0.015 US Dollar.
