Santa Claus :

December 25! It is time for merriness and gifts everywhere.

But who brings these gifts to us? The man who is spoken all over during Christmas is Santa Claus. Famously called as Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Kris Kringle and Father Christmas, Santa Claus is brings home gifts to children on Christmas.

Santa is a blissful, white bearded man loves well behaved children. He wears a funny and attractive dress:

  1. A bright red coat that has White Fur Collar and Cuffs
  2. A pretty white fur-cuffed red trousers
  3. Black Belt
  4. Boots

Santa Claus might also wear spectacles; but he never misses to carry the bag full of gifts along with him. Children also love him because he always seems to be surrounded by happiness.

Who is Santa Claus?

There was a good monk named St.Nicholas. Saint Nicholas was from Myra a place located in Turkey (called Byzantine Empire in that period) and he was a Greek Christian Bishop of Myra. History says that St Nicholas is a very generous person who gave away many gifts to the needy. The name Santa Claus was derived from the Dutch form of St Nicholas – Sint Nikolaas.

Santa Claus and Christmas

There are a lot of traditions and customs pertaining to Santa Claus which varies from nation to nation. Santa Claus generally appears in departmental stores, public and at parties weeks before Christmas.

In many countries, children write letters to Santa Claus. Children write their wish lists and good behaviors in the letter. These letters will be answered by the postal service themselves or volunteers.

Santa Claus is identified by his unique laughter or chuckle which normally sounds like:

“Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas!”

Children from various countries welcome Santa Claus with different items like:

    • A glass of milk and a plate of (USA and Canada)
    • Sheer/ Beer (Britain and Australia)
    • Rice porridge with cinnamon sugar (Denmark, Norway and Sweden)
    • Milk along with Christmas pudding or mince pies (Ireland)

It is believed that Santa Claus visits children every year with a team of flying reindeer that pull the sleigh of Santa. With the help of these reindeers and sleigh, Santa Claus delivers the gifts to all children.
