Republic Day Speech

Today, we have gathered here for the celebration of the republic day of our nation, as it is observed all over the country. The significance of celebrating Republic Day in educational institutions is that students are going to be the future citizens who will lead and shape the future of the nation. It is the great responsibility and duty of every student to build the future of our country. Everyone as the citizen of the nation has to work for the peace and progress of our country.

The celebration of the Independence Day at school will be considered as grand function, that allows students to take home the values and ideals for what our nation stands for.

Republic Day is celebrated every year at the National level. India got independence on 15th August 1947, but we became a Republic Nation only on 26th January 1950. It was on this day that our own constitution came into force and Dr Rajendra Prasad was elected as the President of the nation. After that every year January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day and declared a national holiday.

India was under slavery by the British rule for long years forced to follow the law made by the British. After years of struggle, India got its independence on 15th August in 1947. Right after two and a half years, the Indian government reinforced its own constitution and declared India as a democratic republic country. It took nearly 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days by the constituent assembly of India to pass the new constitution of India finally on 26th January 1940. The fundamental rights and duties of the people have been laid down in our Indian constitution. According to that, every citizen of India has equal rights in the eye of the law, and no one shall be segregated because of religion, creed, caste, color or race. After declaring the country as a Republic Nation, people of India started celebrating Republic Day every year on this day.

Republic means the power of the people. So, India as a Republic gives the power to the people to elect their own political leaders and representatives to lead the country. It is the responsibility of every citizen to participate actively in the political activities and contribute their part to the nation’s peace and welfare.

Today celebrating Republic Day is a great honour for people in India. It’s a day of great importance as many events and campaigns are organised across the country. New Delhi the capital city of India gets into a festive mood as the Republic Day is celebrated at Rajpath near the India Gate, honouring the country’s president, who hoists the flag accompanied with parades and other ceremonies. The event starts with the president of India unfolding the national flag and singing National anthem. Following this, there are so many parades, State wise Jhankis, march past, and awards distribution activities. The army, military, and all the national forces take part in the parade during the Republic Day events.

The Republic day should be celebrated sincerely by all citizens of the country to safeguard the constitution, support the development of our nation, as well as to maintain peace and harmony in the country.
