India was declared a Republic on 26th January, 1950. We celebrate Republic Day every year on this day. It was on this day, the Constitution of India came into force. The day is really important in the history of India to know the struggles of independence and how India became a self-governing nation through the constitution. After India got its independence on 15th august, 1947 from the British rule, in 1950, the Government of India Act 1935 was replaced by the Constitution of India as a governing document. The event was an honorable one and the day was declared as the national holiday by the Government of India.

Celebrations on the Republic day commemorates the sacrifice and struggle of the Indian independence, while honoring the republic nation. Parades, speeches, awards, and ceremonies are conducted every year in various parts of the country. Republic means the supreme power of the people to participate in electing the government representatives. It means, people living in the country has the rights to elect their representatives and political leaders to lead the country in the right direction.

At Rajpath, New Delhi, the President of India hoists the flag and the Indian army (Army, Navy and Air-force) honors the event with parades. The parade is a display of power of the country’s armed forces by demonstrating the greatest assets and inventions. Every state shows off their culture and tradition in the parade.

The day is declared a national holiday, and schools and organizations participate in celebrating the event in their premises with national anthem and flag hoisting. Other activities like social campaigns and events are organized with a mission of making the country peaceful and developed one.
