What is a Solar storm?

Last Updated on June 21, 2022

A solar storm is a disturbance in Earth’s magnetosphere that occurs when there is a sudden release of energy in the form of solar wind and magnetic fields from the sun. This can happen during periods of intense solar activity, such as when there is a large flare or coronal mass ejection. Solar storms can cause aurorae (northern and southern lights), power outages, radio blackouts, and damage to satellites and other space technologies.
