Pele – The Birth of a Legend : (Brief Essay)

Proudly called, the “King of Football” Pele is the most successful Football Player in the world. None other than the fact that he scored 1281 goals in 1363 games (which means an average of 1 goal in each games) proves the electrifying play he displayed when he was on field. With his impeccable performance, he robbed the hearts of many fans and he was considered the best player of all time.

Born in a very normal family, Pele was named Edson Arantes do Nascimento by his parents Dondinho and Dona Celeste Arantes. Dondinho was also a Soccer Player and he taught Pele to play Football even before he joined Amateur Teams. He was nicknamed “Pele” since he mispronounced the name of his favorite Football player Vasco da Gama “Bile”.

Pele scored his first international goal July 1957 against Argentina and that made him the youngest player ever to score in an International Football match. Pele and Team Brazil together won 3 FIFA World Cups – 1958, 1962 and 1970. The record Pele holds goes endless and it is unthinkable that he is the youngest player to be a part of the winning team in International Football world cup. Pele holds a number of records in the 1958 World Cup that are unbreakable till date. But the only record that Pele was never able to break was heading 5 goals in a single match, a record made by his father Dondinho.

The legend was officially declared a “National Treasure” of Brazil by its President Jânio Quadros. Pele connected the phrase “The Beautiful Game” with the Football game and it was indeed he who made the game more beautiful.
