Printable Months of the Year Chart
Months of the year in two kinds of printable: charts to pin up and look at, and worksheets to work through. Everything on this page is a free PDF — download, print, and go.
Chart or worksheet?
A chart shows all twelve months at once. It is for reference — on a wall, inside a folder, or beside a child who is still learning the order. There are four below in different styles, so you can pick the one that suits the room and the printer: bright color pills, a landscape poster, a low-ink table that prints cleanly in black and white, and twelve tear-off calendar cards you can cut apart.
The worksheet set is for practice rather than reference. Ten sheets cover writing the months in order, filling in the ones that are missing, saying what comes next and what came before, matching months to their seasons, counting the days in each one, short forms like Jan. and Feb., cutting and pasting the months into order, and writing today’s date the way it is written in the United States — month, day, year. Every sheet has its answer key on the page that follows it.
Where to start
Put a chart up first and leave it up. Once a child can find a month on it, the ordering sheets stop being a memory test and become something they can reason about. Months and seasons and How many days in each month are the two that usually need the chart nearby.
One note on February
February has 28 days, and 29 in a leap year. The worksheets and the answer keys both say 28 or 29. A sheet that simply says 28 is wrong one year in every four, and it is the kind of thing a child remembers.
