Days of the week chart - Free and Printable
Free printable days of the week charts for kids — a poster, an ordinal chart, a fill-in worksheet, a tracing sheet and cut-out cards.
Every sheet starts the week on Sunday, the way American calendars do. A Monday-first set is included further down for anyone teaching to a UK or Australian calendar, and each sheet says which order it uses at the top, so a page printed by mistake is obvious before it reaches the children.
What is in the set
- Poster — one day to a line in large type, for the wall or the front of a folder
- Ordinal chart — each day with its number and its word — 1st, first — so the order is learned along with the names
- Fill-in worksheet — four days given and three missing, with a word bank at the foot
- Tracing sheet — each day in hollow letters over handwriting rules, to trace
- Cut-out cards — eight cards to cut apart and put back in order
The five work as a sequence rather than as alternatives. The poster goes up first and stays up; the ordinal chart adds the numbers; the worksheet checks whether the order has stuck; the tracing sheet turns it into handwriting practice; the cards let a child rebuild the week with their hands, which is where most of them finally get Wednesday.
Printing
US Letter and A4, both in the set. The color sits in a narrow bar down the side of each row rather than behind the words, so a page costs a fraction of the ink a solid-color chart does — and the worksheet and tracing sheets print perfectly well in black and white. Print at 100%, not Fit to page.
Using them in class
Say the days aloud in order every morning before anything is written; the rhythm does more than the page does. With the cards, deal them face down and have a child lay the week out from memory, then check against the poster. For a child who is nearly there, hand them only the middle five cards — the first and last are the easy ones, and leaving them out is what separates knowing the list from reciting it.
